6 Tips for Busy Women to Get Through the Holiday Season

Dorris Bogus Lifestyle Editor on 13th Dec 2022

The holidays are a time for togetherness, indulgence, and reflection. But, without proper preparation and planning, holiday stress can creep up on the best of us. The following tips will help you manage your expectations, indulge in sleep, and make time to breathe while getting active to combat the holiday bustle.

The holiday season is when we focus on others and ignore ourselves. But it's important to take care of ourselves during this busy time to be strong and healthy for our loved ones during the holidays.

Here are some tips for busy women to get through the holiday season.

1. Manage Your Expectations

The holidays are filled with pressure — from family gatherings, shopping, gift-giving, decorating and entertaining, cooking and cleaning — not to mention having to ensure everyone is happy. It's easy to feel overwhelmed by all of these things coming at once. To avoid feeling stressed out during the holiday season, try setting realistic expectations for yourself and others.

2. Indulge in Sleep

                                       Rest during the holidays

It's hard to get enough shut-eye during the holiday season — there are too many events; we have guests coming over; everyone is exhausted from shopping, etc. This makes it even harder for us to get through the day without feeling exhausted or cranky! Ensure you're getting adequate rest by setting aside time before bed each night — no electronics or distractions are allowed!

3. Do Something for You Every Day

To keep from getting burned out, make sure every day is dedicated to doing something for yourself. Whether it's taking a yoga class or spending an hour reading a book (or both!), carve out time for some self-care every day during this busy season.  For great selections check out Oprah's Book Club.

4. Get Active

The holiday season is a good time to get active. It's easier than ever to find ways to stay fit while spending time with family. Try taking your kids sledding or skiing or go for a walk with your spouse or other adults in the neighborhood. If you have kids who aren't into sports, try finding something that interests them, like ice skating or horseback riding. You can even stay active at home by doing something active with your kids — playing tag or hide-and-seek are just two games requiring movement!

5. Make Time to Breathe

If all the holiday events and activities stress you, take time every day. Go for a walk by yourself or with someone else who understands what you're going through — it will help clear your mind so you can focus on what matters most. You might even want to consider joining a yoga class during this busy season — it's an excellent way to relax while getting some exercise simultaneously!

6. Dress for You

It's easy for us women to get caught up in what other people expect of us at this time of year. The expectations can range from dressing up more than usual to dressing down less than usual (or even not). Dress how you want to dress—not how someone else wants you to!
