How to Develop an “Inlook” Practice

An Inlook practice is the habit of checking in with your inner world before letting the outer world direct your day. It helps you honor your energy, emotions, needs, and intuition—not just your schedule.

1. Begin Before the Day Begins

Before checking your phone, email, or calendar, pause for a quiet moment and ask:

  • How do I feel today?
  • What does my body need?
  • What emotion is present?
  • What kind of pace would support me?

2. Create an Inner Calendar Check-In

Think of your inner self as having its own calendar. Some days call for action, while others call for rest, reflection, creativity, or boundaries.

Ask yourself:
“What season am I in today?”

Am I in a season of:

  • Movement
  • Rest
  • Healing
  • Creation
  • Simplifying
  • Letting go

3. Name Your Energy Level

Before planning your tasks, notice your capacity.

Try this simple scale:

  • High energy: create, lead, organize, move
  • Medium energy: maintain, respond, complete small tasks
  • Low energy: rest, simplify, protect your peace

This helps you work with yourself instead of against yourself.

4. Schedule Inner Needs Too

If your Outlook holds meetings and deadlines, your Inlook should hold space for restoration.

Add simple inner appointments such as:

  • 10 minutes of silence
  • A walk
  • Journaling
  • Prayer or meditation
  • A nourishing meal
  • Time to do nothing

5. End the Day with Reflection

Before bed, ask:

  • What felt aligned today?
  • Where did I ignore myself?
  • What do I need to honor tomorrow?

Final Thought

Developing an Inlook practice is about becoming conscious of your inner rhythm. When you honor what is happening within, your outer life becomes calmer, clearer, and more uncomplicated.
